Officiating the opening Mass to commence the Congress, Most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, the Bishop of Donkorkrom Vicariate, who doubles as the Episcopal Chairman for Clergy and Religious, reminded the Congress Fathers to be constantly aware of their call to function in a synodal church. He urged the Priests gathered at the Congress to:
- Not to be reluctant in relinquishing positions they first enjoy to others.
- Make themselves available to the people of God whom they serve or are placed under their pastoral care.
- Help other realize their God-given talents and potentials.
- Realize the potentials of each one of us for the good of the whole.
Dignitaries present at the opening ceremony held at the Centre for National Culture at Koforidua included the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, His Excellency Most Rev. Henryk Mieczyslaw Jagodzinski, the Eastern Regional Minister Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong.
Others included Most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, the Apostolic Vicar of Donkorkrom and the Episcopal Chairman of Clergy and Religious, Most Rev Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of Sunyani and the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, Bishop of Ho and the Vice President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, Most Rev. Peter Paul Angkyier, Bishop of Damongo, Most Rev Dominic Nyarko Yeboah, Bishop of Techiman, Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu, Bishop of Konongo-Mampong, Most Rev John Yaw Afoakwah, Bishop of Obuasi and Most Rev Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, Bishop of Koforidua who doubles as the Host Bishop.
