STRENGTHENING PASTORAL MINISTRY THROUGH BIBLICAL APOSTOLATE: INSIGHTS FROM THE KOFORIDUA DIOCESAN PASTORAL LEADERS’ CONVOCATION
The recently concluded Pastoral Leaders' Convocation (Mini-Synod), convened by the Koforidua Diocese from 4th to 7th April 2024, at the Koforidua Diocesan Pastoral and Training Centre, had the theme: “Biblical Apostolate, An Essential Tool for Evangelization.” This vital gathering brought together the Clergy, Religious, and Laity to delve into the significance of integrating biblical principles into pastoral ministry/service.


In a profound and reverent ceremony, the diaconate ordination of six candidates; Ebenezer Adu, Maxwell Alaaje, Thomas Ahiaduvor, David Matey Nanor, Gilbert Gbogbo Morthy Jnr., and Kwame Amissah Adu, took place within the solemn context of the Holy Mass at the St. George Cathedral Church, Koforidua, on the 7th of January 2024.
On Saturday, 12th August 2023, Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, the Catholic Bishop of Koforidua, presided at Holy Mass during which he ordained on nine (9) Deacons as Priests for the Diocese of Koforidua. Concelebrating with the Prelate were Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare (Auxiliary Bishop of Accra Archdiocese), the Vicar General, Monsignori, as well as scores of Priests across the length and breadth of the Diocese and beyond.

Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum has inducted into office a new Headmaster for Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary (POJOSS) at Effiduase, Koforidua in in the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua, on Saturday 21st January 2023.
The Santa Barbara Catholic Church, Akosombo has celebrated its 60th Anniversary. The Anniversary marks a critical milestone of bringing spiritual growth to Catholics in the Akosombo Parish and its Outstations. From Friday 12th to Monday 15th August, 2022 Several activities were held to mark the celebrations.
Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, Bishop of Koforidua Diocese, has been elected as the Vice President of the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa (RECOWA) at the just ended 4th General Assembly held from the 2nd-9th May, 2022, in Abuja-Nigeria.
On 24th April 2022, Divine Mercy Sunday, Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, launched two separate important documents on Diocesan Child Protection Policy and a Ten-Year Diocesan Pastoral Strategic Plan which were born out of the splendid hard work of two committees put in place by the Diocesan Bishop three years ago for the purpose of Child protection and roadmap for development and pastoral/evangelisation enhancement respectively in the Diocese. The Prelate of Koforidua also inaugurated two different committees to ensure the implementation of the documents.
The annual seminar for pastoral leaders (also known as mini-synod) in the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua recommenced this year after a three-year break as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s edition took place at the Koforidua Diocesan Pastoral and Training Centre (DPTC) from 21st April to 24th April, 2022. In keeping with the Synod of Bishops declared by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, on the Synodal Church, the theme for the four-day Mini-Synod was Synodality Process.
