On Saturday, August 16, 2025, the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua (CDK) witnessed a joyful moment at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Adoagyiri, where three deacons – Revs. Francis Twum Mensah-Duku, Ebenezer Osei Wiredu, and Shadrack Kwadwo Danso were ordained to the Catholic Priesthood.
The ordination Mass, beginning at 9:30 a.m., was presided over by Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare, Auxiliary Bishop of Accra, with many priests concelebrating. Families, friends, parishioners, and guests filled the church to share in the celebration of faith and mission.
Excerpts of the Bishop’s Homily
-
- Renewed Image of Priesthood: Society often judges the Church through the life of its priests. Unfortunately, scandals, materialism, and clericalism have weakened the priestly witness.
- Call to Authentic Service: Priests must resist the temptation of comfort and power, remembering that they are called to serve God’s people with humility, simplicity, and love.
- The Eucharist at the Heart: The Bishop reminded the new priests that the Holy Mass is the summit of priestly ministry. Quoting Mother Teresa, he urged: “Priest of God, celebrate this Mass as if it is your first Mass, your only Mass, and your last Mass.”
He encouraged the ordinands to stand out as faithful shepherds, committed to prayer, ongoing formation, and reverent celebration of the sacraments.
A Celebration of Grace
The solemn rites of ordination unfolded beautifully, with the newly ordained priests committing themselves to a lifelong mission of service in the Church. The joy of the occasion was shared by all present, marking a new chapter for the Diocese of Koforidua.
Congratulations to Rev. Frs. Francis Twum Mensah-Duku, Ebenezer Osei Wiredu, and Shadrack Kwadwo Danso. May your ministry as priests of Christ bring light, hope, and renewal to the people of God.
