KOFORIDUA DIOCESE CONTINUES PARISH RETOOLING INITIATIVE WITH VEHICLE SUPPORT
The mission of the Church is best accomplished when pastoral workers are equipped with the resources needed to serve God’s people effectively. Recognising the vital role reliable transportation plays in pastoral ministry, the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua is strengthening the operational capacity of its parishes and quasi-parishes. This effort seeks not only to improve mobility and efficiency in pastoral work but also to ensure the safety and well-being of priests serving in often demanding pastoral environments.
Under the leadership of His Lordship, Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, and with the collaboration of the College of Consultors and the Diocesan Transport Committee, the Diocese has initiated a comprehensive retooling project aimed at replacing ageing and deteriorated vehicles with brand-new ones. The long-term goal of this initiative is to provide every parish and quasi-parish with a reliable means of transportation to enhance evangelisation and pastoral outreach.
The project commenced in 2025 when three parishes—St. Michael Parish, Nkawkaw; Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Kwahu Tafo; and St. Peter Parish, Somanya—received three brand-new Toyota Hilux pick-up trucks as part of the first phase of the programme.
Building on the success of the first phase, the Diocese, through God’s abundant blessings, procured another three brand-new Toyota Hilux pick-up trucks in 2026. These vehicles were officially handed over on the Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, celebrated on Wednesday, 24th June 2026, to St. Andrew Parish, Akim Swedru; St. Anthony Parish, Akwatia; and St. Paul Quasi-Parish, Mpraeso-Kwahu.
Present at the handing-over ceremony were the Vicar General, Rev. Msgr. Francis Twum-Barimah; the Chairman of the Diocesan Transport Committee, Very Rev. Fr. Charles Boniface Ahenkorah; the President of KODPA, Very Rev. Fr. Ebenezer Kenneth Abban; and the Acting Financial Administrator, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Omane.
This ongoing retooling initiative reflects the Diocese’s commitment to prudent stewardship of resources and its determination to provide the necessary logistical support for effective pastoral ministry. It is hoped that these vehicles will greatly facilitate the work of evangelisation and pastoral care across the Diocese.
