BRIEF HISTORY OF ST. BAKHITA CATHOLIC CHURCH OLD ESTATES KOFORIDUA
The idea of building a new church to the glory of God for the Nsukwao/Old Estates Catholic Community was conceived by the then Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer Buckle. Two contiguous plots of land which were owned by the Knights and Ladies of Marshall and the late Dr. W. N. Bentil were donated for the project. For this, much credit should be given to them for their contribution to the building of this church.

ST. THERESA PARISH, EFFIDUASE

BRIEF HISTORY AND SITUATION PROFILE
History has it that in the year 1932 AD, Nana Kwaku Hyia, Effiduasehene attended a function outside Effiduase and had the privilege of witnessing the mode of worship of the Roman Catholic Church. Though he was a non –Christian, the worship attracted him so much that on his return expressed the desire to have the Roman Catholic Church introduced at Effiduase. Fortunately, he was informed that two of his subjects, namely Opanyin Obimpeh and Opanyin Bernard Osei worshiped at St. George Roman Catholic Church, Koforidua. He then invited the two to discourse his vision to bring Catholic Church to Effiduase.

ST. GEORGE CATHEDRAL

HISTORY OF ST. GEORGE CATHOLIC CHURCH
From very humble beginnings the church, in an open shed with a handful of faithful, has grown to become a parish and, more so, a Cathedral Church. Koforidua was once a large cocoa producing area and an important trading centre. This attracted a lot of strangers to the area especially Ewes from Togo and Fantes from the coast. The population in Koforidua was predominantly pagan with some Christians belonging to either the Methodist or Presbyterian Church.

On July 6, 1992, the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua was created. This was publicly announced by his Holiness Pope John Paul II (now St. John Paul), through the Papal Bull (an official Church document) Quod iusta quidem, on November 21, 1992. It was the tenth in Ghana, carved from the then Diocese of Accra.
